Between mountains & sea
A gateway to the peninsula
At the crossroads of mountains, coast and community, Camp / An Com is a gateway to the Dingle Peninsula.
Camp lies on the N86, about twelve miles west of Tralee, beneath the Slieve Mish Mountains and Caherconree. Tralee Bay and Brandon Bay frame a landscape of sandy beaches, mountain paths and quiet country roads.
History is close at hand here, in the old routes, monuments and stories of the surrounding countryside. Camp is a place to pause, explore and get to know the peninsula through its people as well as its scenery.

A living tradition
Camp Sheep Fair
A village gathering rooted in the land, and in the generations who have worked it.
Associated with 18 September, Camp Sheep Fair has long brought sheep farmers and local families together. The local account traces its origins to a ram auction in the time of Lord Ventry, who introduced black-faced Scotch sheep to West Kerry and kept a flock of 1,000 ewes at Beheenagh.
Sheep penned along the roadside and bargains struck between buyers and farmers give the fair its distinctive character. As the original account puts it, “take the sheep as you see her!” The sale rests on trust in the farmer and the animal.
The Sheep Show, perpetual trophies remembering Camp men, traditional mutton pies and children gathering after school are all part of its story. Horses, donkeys, poultry and other animals have also joined the occasion over the years.
