ANNASCAUL GAA

SENIORS: Annascaul 0-6 John Mitchel’s 1-11

John Mitchel’s advanced to the second round of the Intermediate championship after a comprehensive win over Annascaul back in West Kerry. Annascaul, playing with the aid of a breeze in the first half, started brightly. Jason Hickson led the way, kicking three huge points in the opening fifteen minutes. The visitors held their composure to claw their way back into the game, with Alan O Donoghue and Niall Sheehy prominent. Despite missing a number of chances, Mitchel’s took the lead through points from Sheehy, Wayne Conway and Shaun Maloney. While they battled bravely in the first half, Annascaul failed to find a way past a tenacious Mitchel’s defence, with Brendan O Mahoney sweeping everything that came his way. With referee Peter Lyons’ whistle, Annascaul trailed at half time, 0-3 to 0-5. After the break, Mitchel’s took up where they left off and popped over two early points. But, the home team didn’t lie down. James Crean and Kenneth Quirke, who was the Annascaul’s best performer on the day, kicked two excellent efforts in the space of two minutes. However, from the next kickout, Mitchel’s long ball worked to good effect, putting the Annascaul rear-guard under pressure and resulting in the concession of a penalty. Wayne Conway slotted it, and it was effectively game over from that point on. Emmet Kennedy, Genie Farrell and Jason Hickson worked hard for the home side, but with a rampant Alan O Donoghue and Niall Sheehy, Mitchel’s sailed home.

We play Ardfert in the County league this coming weekend in Annascaul. Time to be confirmed.
