CAMP NOTES – 8TH JUNE 2015

The Irish Countrywomen’s Association was formed in 1910, its motto “Deeds not Words” has been the hallmark of the association down through the years, to this present day,

At a National event in Killarney 25 years of service was marked with a presentation of certificates to those members with us for all those years. The following Camp ICA ladies were recipients of certificates on the night –

Kathleen Bedford, Dolly Chambers, Kitty Crean, Geraldine Dennehy, Helen Martin, Mary Moran, Brigid O Connor, Eileen O Shea, Mary O Shea,  Maureen Sayers, Mary Jo Slattery, Breda Quirke.

And Camp ICA Guild are celebrating too !   25 years was marked at The Old School on Thursday night with music, song and dance and delicious food, all provided by the ladies themselves. Our most senior member Brigid Uí Mhoráin and our youngest member Martina Quirke both performed on the night, along with party pieces all round from young and old. Kay Connell celebrated a special birthday with an “0” on the night and a beautiful cake was baked for Kay on her special day. And on Sunday ICA ladies enjoyed a lunch out in Dingle in Ballintaggart House.

IRISH QUILTERS EXHIBITION

Quilting is a wonderful creative art and skill which has become very popular in recent times. To celebrate  “Irish Quilters week”  the South West Branch held an exhibition at St. James Church Dingle last weekend. And in The Blasket Centre a Quilt and Textile exhibition will run until June 14th.  Camp ICA Secretary Helen Martin will have some of her wonderful pieces on display ! The theme is “The Wild Atlantic Way”.

IRISH KIDNEY ASSOCIATION

Ann O Donnell and friends presented E1080 to Theresa  Looney, Secretary, Kerry branch of the Irish Kidney Association on Thurday night at The Junction Bar, Camp. The funds were proceeds of the local Mikey O Donnell Memorial Darts Tournament event and The 2015  Calendar. On behalf of the organising committee Jimmy O Dwyer thanked everybody who supported and contributed to these events.

GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE

Camp Community Council are creating a community Garden of Remembrance to commemorate volunteerism in our area.  It is intended to erect a plaque in the Garden. Suggestions for an inscription for this plaque are invited from members of the community. Suggestions to – The Secretary, Camp Community Council, Old School, Camp – by post or by hand in the letterbox at the Old School Camp.
