CORCA DHUIBHNE PASTORAL MASS

A large gathering of Parishioners from  the Corca Dhuibhne Pastoral area attended the pilgrimage Walk and Mass concelebrated by Bishop Ray Browne assisted by the priests of the area at Sagart Mass Rock, Coumdubh, Annascaul on Friday evening.  It was a wonderful welcome event for our new bishop and a really joyuous occasion tinged with memories for all of the people of the parish. This Mass Rock was used during the Penal Days for the celebration of Mass. Close by, at no great distance from the Rock, is ‘Tobareen na Comeena’- the little Communion Well- where, tradition has it the priest secured water for use at Mass, and the faithful broke their fast after Holy Communion.  The water in this well is said to be the purest and the coolest in all of the parish.

ANNASCAUL SENIORS

We travelled to Tarbert on Sunday last, and lost by three points. The game started slowly, with no score registered until the 13th minute, which was a point for the hosts. Soon after, Tarbert scored a scrappy goal to go into a four point lead, until James Crean found the net himself, after good work from Shane Foley. We kicked a number of wides in the second quarter, and went in at halftime trailing by a point, 1-4 to 1-3. The second half started well for us, as Emmet Kennedy won most of the possession around the middle. Unfortunately, a lot of misplaced passes and shots proved our undoing, and Tarbert edged further ahead with a second goal. From then on, we were chasing the game until the final whistle. Final score; Annascaul 1-8, Tarbert 2-8. Best for us were Daniel O Connell, Gearoid O Shea, Emmet Kennedy and Shane Foley. TEAM: Tommy Pierce, David Clifford, Gearoid O Shea, Eoghan O Neill, Ger Farrelly, Colm Barry, Daniel O Connell, Eamonn Hickson, Emmet Kennedy (0-1), James Scanlon, Genie Farrell, Declan Lindsey, Shane Foley (0-2), James Crean (1-5), Johnny Deane. SUBS: Packie Farrell, Jamie Quirke, Stephen Pierce, Darragh Finn.
