ANNUAL WALK – IRISH KIDNEY ASSOCIATION
Come Walk With Me – Annual walk in aid of the Irish Kidney Association held on Saturday June 15th was a great success. Well done to Jimmy and Paddy O Dwyer and all the organisers. And thanks also to Pat Moore and Eileen O Shea who took care of registration at The Hub in O Dwyers Mace on the day.
The scenic walk along the Dingle Way and up the bog and through the hills was superb and really enjoyed by everybody.
Afterwards, a barbeque of delicious food served up by Robbie and Chriss went down a treat at The Junction Bar.
And the Musicman himself Gerard Mulligan entertained us all to music and song while we dined in the outdoor picnic area of the bar.
Over E2000 raised so far. To all who supported and took part in the walk well done and again thanks to all who organised the day, a great annual event for a good cause!
BASKETBALL
Dáire Kennelly from Camp, Rap Buivydas and Leeroy Odiahi from Tralee, three Kerry boys have been selected on U/18 Irish Basketball team to play in the European Championships in Romania this summer and the Dussmann Tournament in Luxembourg.
They will have warmup games too in Dublin.
The International teams within Basketball Ireland are largely (80%) self funded which means the team must fundraise to cover the trip.
Garveys Tralee Warriors have very generously donated for raffle the Number 10 jersey worn by Kieran Donaghy in this years Superleague final.
The jersey is signed by the team, in addition, there are 2 season passes for the Warriors home games for next season.
Tickets are 5 Euro each and if interested – Tickets can be purchased at O Dwyers Mace shop in Camp and at Sandy Feet Farm, Camp.
GAA
Two Annascaul Club footballers, Campmen, James Crean and Andrew Finn were selected for the Kerry Junior Squad 2019.
Congratulations James and Andrew and good luck in the Munster final against Cork on 26th June.
THE JUNCTION BAR
The Junction Bar (Fitzgeralds) have music every weekend during the summer.
Local band “High Tide” will play every Monday night for the season from 17th June.
OBITUARY
Bridie Galvin (nee O Shea) College Street, Castlegregory and formerly of Glenmane, Camp passed to her eternal reward last week.
Bridie lived to a great old age, born in 1921, Fr. Michael Hussey PP at her funeral Mass in Castlegregory gave a lovely interesting homily about the times Bridie lived through, a historical era of much turmoil and political strife.
In her guesthouse, one of the earliest B/B’s in the village of Castlegregory, Bridie was warm and welcoming ! She was a lovely person and a real lady. May she Rest In Peace.
Bridies Husband Michael predeceased her as did her Daughter in law, Noreen.
She is survived by her sons Patrick, Michael, and James, grandchildren, Carol and Cliff, great grandchildren, Conor and Jimmy, relatives and friends.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Congratulations and best wishes to our local lovely violionist, Kate Mulcahy on celebrating a big birthday with a large gathering of musicians from all over the peninsula and beyond at The Railway Tavern on Sunday evening.

Go maire tú an chéad, Kate ! It was a mighty session for sure, a great night enjoyed by everybody !

IRISH DANCING CHAMPION
Caoimhe Cawley, Meenascorthy, Camp competed in Craobhacha Rince Náisiúnta na hÉireann in City west Dublin recently qualifying to compete in oíreachtas Rince na Cruinne 2020.
Caoimhe beat off strong competition, 132 dancers in all competed in her category.
Caoimhe is no doubt following in the footsteps of her Aunt Mairead O Connor and her mother Katie both Champion Irish Dancers.
Congratulations Caoimhe and good luck in the finals.
OBITUARY
The death of Sr. Catherine Herlihy, Order of The Holy Family, Tullamore and formerly of Knockglossmore, Camp occurred recently.
Sr. Catherine entered the convent from Camp school, at a very young age and devoted her entire life to the service of others.
Sr. Catherine or Kitty as she is known to us in Camp began her novitiate in France during World War 2, a very troubled period of German occupation.
In a very short time she mastered the language, becoming fluent in French.
She became a teacher and was dedicated to the provision of education to all children, no matter what circumstances or backgrounds they came from.
Sr. Catherine spent some years with the order in London in her teaching ministry and finally retired home to the House of The Holy Family Order
in Tullamore where she was to end her days very content and happy, back in her home country.
Sr. Catherine had reached a great old age and after a very fulfilled life she passed away peacefully and is laid to rest in the local cemetary in Tullamore. Rest In Peace.
Her sisters Bridie and Betty and brother Sean predeceased her.
Sr. Catherine is survived by her sister Sr. Brendan and her brother Paud, nieces, nephews, Grand nieces and nephews and large extended family and friends to whom sympathy is extended.
MAHAREES REGATTA
Maharees Regatta cancelled due to adverse weather conditions on Sunday last has been rescheduled to take place on Saturday 3rd. August.
RADIO KERRY VISITS OCEAN VIEW
Sean Hurley and Eileen Moynihan recorded a wonderful programme at Ocean View Nursing Home on Thursday evening.
Musicians Milo O Brien, Pat Finn and Josephine Raftery entertained and Kyle Benson and Gearóid Evans from Keel sang 2 lovely songs.
Many of the residents chatted with Sean, reminiscing on old times, great memories too.
Liam Fenix, well known in his shop in the Square, Tralee and now retired to Ocean View gave a crystal clear account of Kerry football and the Tralee clubs he supported down through the years.
Asked on his opinion of the Best Kerry Footballer of all time, Liam gave the honour to Annascaulman Paddy Kennedy !

KERRY WIN
And the tradition of winning football medals continues in Camp, Annascaul clubmen, James Crean and Andrew Finn, Knockgloss beg brought home 2 Munster medals on Wednesday night when Kerry Juniors defeated Cork in the Munster final at Pairc Uí Finn.
Congratulations and good luck to James and Andrew in the final.
OBITUARY
The news of the death of Jimmy Kennedy, Maum, Camp and New York was met with deep sadness in Camp on Tuesday June 25.
Jimmy passed away peacefully in Tarrytown, New York surrounded by his entire family in New York and from Ireland.
Jimmy was very popular growing up at home, he a great sense of humour, always joking and good fun and all of us friends and neighbours have fond memories of him going to Camp school.
Like alot of the youth of his time, Jimmy immigrated to New York in 1964 and for a time, he lived with his aunt Margaret Curran and her husband James.
Jimmy was hard working and ambitious and in a short few years, along with his two brothers Paddy and Tom, the Kennedy Brothers established a very successful construction company
contributing hugely to the building industry of the city spanning 40 years.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Patricia and their six children Patrick (Meaghan) Bridie, William (Dara), James, John and Thomas, Grandchildren, Braden, Declan, Charlotte, Reagan, Riley and John.
Jimmy is also survived by his brothers Johnny, Paddy and Tom as well as nieces, nephews, his sisters-in-law and many friends, sympathy is extended to all.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Bridie, sister Hannah Kennedy Cournane and nephew Patrick R.I.P.

Jimmy was laid to rest on Friday last in The Gate of Heaven Cemetery, New York following requiem Mass in The Church of The Transfiguration.
May his gentle soul Rest In Peace.
