CAMP NOTES – 4TH FEBRUARY 2015

OBITUARY

Eugene Hanley, Skirlough, Camp and New Jersey, USA  died on Thursday January 8 last, at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson, Maryland, USA. He was 85 years of age.

Gene came to Camp in 1982 on retirement. An English teacher for all of his working life, Gene loved literature and books. He was also a playwright of renown and the peaceful setting of his new home in the valley prompted him to write and produce a play and musical entitled “Time Will Tell.”  Gene had a great appreciation of music too and he often entertained visitors, playing the piano in his home. “Time will Tell” was staged in Siamsa Tire, Tralee and in Cork to full houses and the proceeds went to local charities.

Gene was a great neighbour and supporter of local community and church activities. In the year 2000 he returned to the USA to live with his daughter Jane and family.

A funeral Mass for Gene will be celebrated at the Church of the Nativity, Timonium on January 14th at 11am and burial of Ashes in the grave of his late wife Celia will take place at a later date at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in Madison, New Jersey.  Gene is survived by his daughter Jane, son-in-law Peter and granddaughters, Emma & Katie.  Gene’s wife, Cecile, predeceased him. Sympathy is extended to Jane and family and to his many friends in the USA and in Camp.
