GAA
Annascaul defeated Ardfert in great sporting conditions at home last Sunday on a score-line of 0-16 to 2-09.
The scoring opened with a point from Ardfert’s Cian Hussey in the first minute of the game, followed with a free from Annascaul’s James Crean. Further points were exchanged from Ardfert’s John Galvin and Annascaul’s Jason Hickson, and a superb save from the home side goalie Tommy Pierce left the sides level at the end of the first quarter mark.
Annascaul’s James Crean pointed from a free in the sixteenth minute before Ardfert’s Cian Hussey gave the away side a two point lead from a goal. Annascaul dominated the remainder of the quarter with points from Aidan Crean, Fionn Coakley, James Crean, Emmet Kennedy and Jason Hickson. During the two minutes of injury time Ardfert’s Cian Hussey and Darren Wallace narrowed the margin to leave the half- time score of Annascaul 0-8 to Ardfert’s 1-04.
An exciting entrance to the second half ensued with a penalty awarded to Ardfert in the opening minutes converted by Michael Moloney to put another goal on the board. Brandon Barrett quickly followed with a point for Ardfert before a change was forced when Ardfert’s Michael Moloney was black carded and replaced by Brian Moloney. A spell of points from Annascaul’s Emmet Kennedy, Jason Hickson, James Crean and Eamonn Hickson left Annascaul two ahead at the start of the final quarter.
A free for both sides saw John Galvin and Jason Hickson slotting over, before a shrewd pass from Annascaul’s James Farrell to James Crean saw the ball over the bar. With five minutes to go and three points up Annascaul would have thought they were home and dry but a hungry Ardfert looking for a share of the spoils slotted over three points to level the game at the final stages. However, a Jason Hickson free insured Annascaul’s victory on the day with the full time sore of Annascaul 0-16 to Ardfert’s 2-09.
