CAMP DRAMA

Camp Drama Group presented “All Exclusive”  a comedy by Hugh Morrison. The scene is set in a classy hotel in the exotic Island of San Atairi in The Caribbean.  Putting in a wonderful performance although new to the stage  were Fergal Crean, the one-handed bus driver Stefano and Gene Finn who played “Steve”, the Irishman who saved the Hotel during a local political revolution. The always funny  Mike O Neill, Mighuel, a famous artist, and the hilariouslyfunny Mary Moran and Anne Eager the Camp Town Twinning Reps visiting the island who were not too happy with things in the hotel. Hazel Evans was the very officious Hotel Rep and Karen played by Eileen Quirke, the studious art student engaged to Steve.  Keith Flaherty was the Daily Times Newspapers Art Critic.    Breda Quirke Directed the play and no play is complete without a Promptor and Mary Knightly was behind the scenes ensuring that all flowed smoothly.  Keith O Flaherty and Michaél O Moráin were in charge of Lighting and Sound. Front of House was Martin Quirke and  stage crew Pádraig O Móráin and Martina Quirke.  And Martina Quirke stepped in the last minute to play the Lounge Waitress in the Hotel.  This is Camps third stage Production.  It ran over 3 nights last weekend in The Old School to packed houses every night.  A wonderful production !  it was most enjoyable.  Congratulations to each and everyone of the cast and crew and all who helped out in any way.  Camp Drama Group are always looking for new talent.  If you are interested in getting involved in next years production, please contact any member of the Drama Group.

AUGHACASLA SCHOOL

The Table Quiz run by The Aughacasla National School Parents’ Association in O’Neill’s Bar in Camp was a great success. An enjoyable night was had by all and we would like to thank the participants and local businesses that donated spot prizes.

GAA/SENIORS: We drew with John Mitchel’s at the weekend, on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-10. We started slowly, being two points down until Eamonn Lenihan got his hand to a long ball and found the net. Shane Foley and Gareth O Donnell, after a great run, picked off points to give us a two point half time lead. Scores in the second half were at a minimum, as we depended on Jason Hickson’s placed kicks and some resolute defending from David Clifford and Ger Farrelly. With minutes remaining, Jason kicked what seemed to be the winning point, only for John Mitchel’s to attack and win a free, resulting in the equalising score. Best for us were James Crean, Emmet Kennedy, David Clifford, Ger Farrelly and Genie Farrell. TEAM: Tommy Pierce, David Clifford, Eamonn Hickson, Ger Farrelly, Daniel O Connell, Keith Moynihan, Gareth O Donnell (0-1), Jason Hickson (0-3, 2f), Emmet Kennedy, Genie Farrell, James Crean (0-1), Gearoid O Shea, Jonathon Deane, Eamon Lenihan (1-0), Shane Foley (0-2).

JUNIOR B: We will play Cordal in Annascaul this coming Friday at 7:30.

ANNASCAUL SOCCER: Annascaul FC are division 2b champions after a 3-0 win over Na Fianna on Sunday. A spirited performance was rewarded by two goals from Shane Foley and one from Eamonn Hickson. Annascaul rode their luck in the first half and only for last ditch defending from Man-of-the match Eamon Lenihan they would been down at half time. A more attacking display in the second half proved the perfect tonic for Annascaul’s ambitions and they ran out comfortable winners. Congrats to Johnny Shea, Gary Finn and their squad.

OBITUARY

The death of Paddy Fitzgerald occurred in Oceanview Nursing Home, Camp on Tuesday last.  Paddy was a native of The Maharees.  He travelled widely during his life living for a time in New York and in Hawaii.  He was a great artist,  and despite illness he continued to work on his sculptors creating some wonderful pieces which are now in display in many public places.  He prided himself particularly in working on the Naomhóg, a small wooden boat with which he was so familiar with during his childhood in The Maharees.  Sympathy is extended to his family and many friends.  May He Rest In Peace.

Sympathy is also extended to the family and friends of  Séan John Fitzgerald, Aughacasla who also died recently.  Séan was a  gentleman and a friend to many people during his lifetime.  God rest his gentle soul.

THE GATHERING

Camp was ably represented at “The Gathering”  in The Malton Hotel, Killarney on Friday night.  Paddy Joe Crean, Knockgloss Beg attended with 20 members of The Kerrymans Association in London. Michaél Quirke, Garrahies,  was there with the Cork, Kerrymans Association and Tom Kennedy, Maum was with the New York contingent.   Paddy Joe Crean and Michéal Quirke were classmates in Camp National School and hadn’t met in 55 years since they parted at the school gate so long, long ago.  The Gathering is a new tourism initiative aimed at bringing people back home thus helping the economy here in this country.  There was a huge attendance from all over the world

at the function on Friday night and by all accounts it was a great success.

ANNASCAUL GAA

SENIORS: After a number of weeks off, we resumed our county league campaign with a loss, away to Finuge  on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-8. Down by two at half time, we failed to peg the home team back and can have no complaints about the loss. Best for us were Jason Hickson, James Crean, David Clifford, Genie Farrell and Colm Barry. TEAM: Tommy Pierce, Colm Barry, Eamonn Hickson (0-1), David Clifford, James Scanlon, Keith Moynihan, Ger Farrelly, Emmet Kennedy, Jason Hickson (0-2f), Eamonn Lenihan, Genie Farrell (0-1f), Gearoid O Shea, Aidan Crean (0-3f), James Crean, Jonathon Deane (0-1).

JUNIOR B’S: The Junior team lost out to Lispole on a 1-8 to 1-7 scoreline at the weekend. Best for us were Daniel O Connell, Shane Scanlon, Declan Lindsey, Jamie Finn, John Bowler and Francis Herlihy. Our next outing is this coming Friday in Annascaul at 7.30, against Cordal. COISTE NA N-OG

Un14 County Final: Well done to the Annascaul/Lispole team on their great County League Final win in Blennerville Wednesday last. The 7pt half-time lead looked like it would not be enough against this highly rated Cordal/Scartaglin side who went into this final unbeaten all year. However, having to face into more stormy conditions in the 2nd half Annascaul/Lispole full forward Brian Kennedy, who had scored 1-5 in 1st half was moved to full back and Rian O’ Sullivan was moved to midfield having scored 2-2. These switches turned out to our advantage as both lads inspired their team on in dire weather conditions. The Annascaul/Lispole defence also came more into the game closing down Cordal/Scart forwards .Goalkeeper Kieran O’ Connor was called on to make some fine saves, to keep his team in the game. Annascaul/Lispole lead by 2pts reaching the closing stages of this exciting final when Brian Kennedy made a tremendous rally up the field that lead for a 20m free been awarded. Rian O’ Sullivan kicked over the free to seal a memorable County Final win.  Well done to all the panel members for the great spirit they have shown all year and to the mentors, Tim Falvey and David Clifford for this sucess especially after being well beaten in their round one meeting in Cordal/Scart. Captain Cathal Ferriter, who was outstanding all through the league received the trophy from County Secretary, Tagdh O’ Halloran after the game.

Annascaul FC are division 2b champions after a 3-0 win over Na Fianna on Sunday. A spirited performance was rewarded by two goals from Shane Foley and one from Eamonn Hickson. OBITUARY

The death of Mary Agnes Kelehan (nee Fitzgerald) Newcastle, Galway and formerly of The Junction Bar, Camp occurred on Monday last. She had reached the great old age of 93.  Mary Agnes will be fondly  remembered for her caring nature and kindness to everybody. Her home was an open door to the many young people from Camp attending college in Galway down through the years. She never forgot her roots and was a lifelong Kerry supporter. Mary Agnes was predeceased by her husband Bartley and daughters Marion and Philomena and grandchildren Robert and John. She is survived by her sons, Peter, Michael, Bertie, John and Austin, daughters Margaret, Clare and Carmel and the Fitzgerald and Lane families of Camp. Sympathy is extended to all. May she Rest In Peace.

The death of John Paul O Brien, Flemingstown, Annascaul really heralds the end of an era. John Paul was a man of many parts,  a farmer all of his life, John Paul was also a very skilled electrician known the length and breadth of the county installing milking machines. He could in fact turn his hand to anything.  He was our Auctioneer for many years at the annual Sale of Work in Camp and he contested the local elections in the Dingle Electoral area as an independent on a number of occasions.  He was a  community man too,  campaigning on many issues of local concern in the peninsula over the years.  He is survived by his wife Eileen to whom sympathy is extended. May he Rest in Peace.
