CAMP DRAMA
Camp Drama Group’s wonderful performance of “Its on, Its Off” at the Old School in Camp received standing ovations from a packed house over last weekend and Bank Holiday Monday as well. Director Keith Flaherty was so right when he said at the introduction that the play would be fun and indeed it was, it was actually hilariously funny ! The cast were outstanding and they handled the twists and turns and intricate happenings of the play very well. Drama was always a popular pastime in Camp down through the years and its wonderful to see it resurrected again and another generation taking it up. The Cast of Camp Drama Group are as follows – Dympna, Irish Mammy – Ann Eager, Gerard, henpecked husband, Mike O Neill, Robert (married son) – Breda Quirke, Tina, Daughter – Karen Blennerhassett, Monica, Robert’s lover – Eileen Quirke, Angela – Tina’s mother in law to be – Hazel Evans. CPR & DEFIBRILLATOR TRAINING
Due to voting in the Old School for the Children’s Referendum on November 10th the CPR and defibrillator refresher will be between 11 and 1pm at the Sports Hall. Why not call down when you have voted
WORKING WAY OUT OF RECESSION CONFERENCE
Camp businesswoman and IT Tralee Lecturer, Breda O Dwyer was one of the lead speakers joining successful entrepreneur Gerry Kennelly, Tweak.com, Brian McCarthy Fexco and others at the “Working Our Way Out Of Recession Conference” organised by South Kerry Skillnet in Killarney last week . Breda O Dwyer’s lecture, a recording of which was relayed on Radio Kerry’s “Inbusiness” on Thursday evening, was awe inspiring and encouraging as was the entire proceedings. The attendance included many of Kerry’s business community and entrepreneurs working forward towards a positive future. Congratulations Breda and all involved !!

Local Camp Musician Cian O Moráin is organising a “Trad for Trocaire” fundraising night at The Railway Tavern, Camp on Tuesday 6th November at 8.00 p.m. Lots of support musicians will be taking part on the night. Please support.

DEFIBRILLATOR
The Camp Defibrillator Committee would like to extend an open invitation to all those who wish to refresh their CPR skills. Our community CPR manakin “Maurice” and our training defibrillator will be available in the old school from 11am to 1pm on Saturday 10th November. Please drop in and refresh your skills, it is free of charge. You can practice or watch but remember, it is your responsibility to keep your CPR skills updated. It might save a life !
CAMP DRAMA ON STAGE
Camp Drama Group Presents “It’s on It’s off” a hilariously funny play by Ray Lawrence in Camp Old School next Saturday and Sunday, 27th and 28th October and on Bank Holiday Monday, 29th October. ANNASCAUL WALKING FESTIVAL
The Great Ourdoors beckons this weekend in West Kerry ! Annascaul Walking Club are organising a series of walks for all, starting on Friday night at 7.30 p.m. with the Meelin Hill easy walk, 2 hours duration.
On Saturday you have two options to climb Mount Brandon from Faha Cloghane and or Baile Bhreac, West of Dingle, both walks start at 9.00 a.m. Walk rating – Tough 5 hours approximately.
Annascaul Lake Loop Walk starts at 10.00 am. On Saturday, an easy 2 hour walk from the village to the haunting beauty of Annascaul Lake in Droumavalla and returning through Ballinacourty and Burial place of Tom Crean back to the village.
Sunday – Climb Caherconree starting at 9.00 a.m. A tough 3 hour walk taking in fabulous scenery and the historic Promontory Fort, reputed to be the highest fort in Ireland. And the Annascaul, Maum stage is a moderate 3 hour walk on a good road taking in spectacular views of Inch and Annascaul Valley and Lake.

VW VINTAGE CLUB
All VW enthusiasts will be heading to the Railway Tavern, Camp this weekend for the annual gathering of the club. Proprietor of The Railway Tavern, Mike O Neill is as we all know an ardent Volkswagon collector and owner of a few over the years and he will be leading a tour of the Peninsula over the weekend. Music and craic as always in the pub over the weekend.
BIRTHDAYS
Congratulations to Curra neighbours Martin Quirke and Christopher Foley, two well known Campmen celebrating special birthdays with an “0” this week. A huge crowd of wellwishers, family and friends turned up at Ashes Pub on Saturday night to wish Christopher a “Happy Birthday” and Martin was joined by family and a wide circle of friends at his home in Curra on Sunday afternoon for a big celebration which went on ‘til late, to mark his special birthday ! Martin and Christopher, Go Maire sibh an Céad !!!
CAMP CHILDCARE CENTRE
Football with Annette is starting in Camp Afterschool Club on Tuesdays from 4-5. Annette is trained in childcare and is also a very talented footballer with several titles under her belt, including All Irelands and All Stars and she is really looking forward to training Camp Afterschool Club again this year. OBITUARY
Well known Inch Publican Bridie Foley passed to her eternal reward recently. Bridie was in her 92nd year and she was hail and hearty up until the end ! The Ventry native was very proud of her great Irish language tradition, she taught at Breac Cluain National School in Annascaul for many years and was Principal Teacher at the time of her retirement. She is survived by her sons John and Pat, Daughter Anne, sister Maureen, brothers John, Tom and Joe, grandchildren and large extended family. Bridie was predeceased by her husband Jerry. She was laid to rest in Inch Cemetary following requiem Mass celebrated at St. Josephs Church, Inch on Friday, 7th. October. Go ndéana Dia Trocaire ar a h-anam dílis.
Sympathy is extended to Tom O Shea, Kilteenbane, Camp on the death of his brother Martin in New York. May he Rest In Peace.
CD LAUNCH
A huge crowd attended the launch of Noreen Ashes’s CD “ Waltzing Thru Ireland”
at The Ballygarry House Hotel on Friday night. There was a huge array of support artists which included her brother Johnny Ashe, PJ Murrihy, Dermot Moriarty and many others, well known in the Country and Western and Irish music circuit locally and nationally. Noreen’s CD is available in all good music and record shops.

ECUMENICAL RETREAT WALK

A  Ecumenical Retreat Walk will be held on Sunday, 14th. October starting at Upper Camp at 2.30 p.m. to  Killelton Oratory and along the beach to Kilgobbin Church and return to Upper Camp around 5.00 p.m for light refreshments.  All welcome.

Noreen Ashe’s  CD Launch will be held at The Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee on Friday, 12th October. There is a wonderful  lineup of top class support artists in the world of entertainment  on the Kerry music scene  performing with Noreen on the night.        Among them is Noreen’s  brother Johnny Ashe,  PJ Murihy,  Dermot Moriarty,  Mike Condon,   Eddie Lee and Danny and Mary O Leary.    The CD entitled Waltzing Thro Ireland  has a beautiful selection of songs,    all from Noreen’s own repertoire.    It is the perfect Christmas gift for anyone with a love of Irish music at home or abroad.   Noreen, a native of Keel Castlemaine,  now residing with her husband James  Finn and son at Lougher, Annascaul has had an earlier success  on Utube with her song  “Just Loving You.”     Friday 12th October is  a night not to be missed !        A bus will travel from Dingle to Tralee,  Leaving Dingle at 8.00 p.m.  on the night –   Only E5.00.    The bus must be prebooked,    please call 087 2673840 to secure a seat.

LONDON KERRY ASSOCIATION

Officials from the Kerry Enterprise Board and Kerry County Council will host a special business networking event at the Crown Moran Hotel in Cricklewood on October 25 in an effort to engage with London-based businessmen from the county.     Spearheaded by CEO Kerry Enterprise Board,  Tomas Hayes  and Kerry Deputy County Manager Michael McMahon,  the aim of  this meeting is to pave the way for further joint ventures between the county officials and the London-based Kerry Business Community.

KERRY ASSOCIATION PERSON  OF THE YEAR 2012

Gaelic Athletic Association stalwart Paddy Griffin has been named as the Kerry Association London Person of the Year for 2012.   The Minard Lispole native received this distinction in recognition of his involvement in Kerry life in London for over  half a Century.     A former secretary of the London County GAA Board,   Paddy has written a book, entitled Gaelic Hearts on the history of the sport in London and is also a former journalist with the Irish World Newspaper.

CAMP VINTAGE CLUB –  Camp Vintage Club Annual Tractor road run in aid of Kerry Hospice next Sunday 7th October starts at 11.30 a.m. at the windmill in  Blennerville  to The Junction Bar,  Camp  where complimentary soups and sandwiches  will be served.    The Tractor Run will then return to Blennerville.     Enq.  0872543896.   A Raffle was held at The Junction Bar in conjunction with Vintage day.  Drawn on Camp fair night; Winners as follows; 1st Hamper;  Gerard farrelly. 2nd. Wine;    Micheal Collins. 3rd. Wine;     Gerard Quirke. A total of 240eu was collected for Kerry Hospice which will be added to proceeds of tractor run taking place this coming Sunday. TIDY TOWNS – Camp was awarded  223 marks in The National Tidy Towns competition this year,  up 4 on last year.  Great stuff,   getting better every year and encouragement to all to keep up the good work and thanks to all the volunteers who help out and The Rural  Social Scheme and  Fás workers !!

BALLINCLARE FAIR – Ballinclare Fair, Annascaul Sheep and Horse Fair will be held on Sunday, 7th October.  Sheep Show at 1.00 p.m in Hannifins Bar.  Categories – Best Ram Lamb, Suffolk, Texel and Cheviot Ram, Yearling and Aged Ram and Best [en Scotch ewe lambs and best horse of the day.  Bouncy Castle, Sheep Shearing, Pet Show, Treasure Hunt, Mutton pies and Great Music all day long. 

HARVEST FESTIVAL – A  Ecumenical Service will be held in The Church of Ireland, Camp on Sunday, 7th. october at 3.00 p.m.     Afterwards, refreshments will be served  at The Old School, Upper Camp.  All welcome.

Gleann na nGealt on Cogair TG4

On Sunday October 28th. a programme on Gleann na nGealt will be broadcast on the Irish Language, Television Channel, TG4. The history is about the cure for madness which is in the waters of the Mad Well Tobar na nGealt in Gleann na nGealt.
