OBITUARY
The death has taken place of Tommy Sayers, Derrymore East, Tralee. Tommy was a great GAA man and goalkeeper. He was goalkeeper with that great Camp Team that won 3 finals in a row in 1949,1950 and 1951. Camp and Derrymore amalgamated in 1948 and had a team in the Castlegregory District Board. Of course many more Derrymore players played with Camp but that report is for another day. Tommy’s great friend, colleague and fellow Camp football team player Eoghan O Duibhne ( Eugie Deane) Curra gave a wonderful oration at the graveside when Tommy was laid to rest in Rath Cemetary Tralee on Thursday 27th November. Tommy is survived by his wife Maureen (nee Murphy) Daughters, Gerardine, Jean and Nicola, Son, Aidan, grandchildren Maeve, Michael, Conor, Amy, Jamie, Dylan and Ava, brother John, sister Sr. Philomena, son-in-law, Michael daughter-in-law, Fiona, extended family, relatives and many friends. Sympathy is extended to all.
The death of Dan Mulcahy, Garrahies, Camp occurred last Friday. Dan is another member of the panel of players of that great Camp Team of 1949, 1950 and 1951. He was a real strong defender and sometimes played in goal. And Along with playing out the field he was the sub goalkeeper. Dan was a huge supporter of Kerry football all of his life and Mark Rowlands in his address to the congregation after Mass on Sunday expressed the gratitude and thanks of the family to John Doyle and Bernadette Fitzgerald who brought the Sam Maguire Cup to Dan’s bedside just days before his death which brought him great joy ! There is no doubt that If there is a football team in that great heavenly Kingdom our two Camp goalkeepers will surely be a part if it ! Eoghan O Duibhne again gave a poignant oration at the graveside in Old Kilgobbin Cemetery on Sunday when Dan was laid to rest alongside his beloved wife Bridget who predeceased him. The Requiem Mass on Sunday was celebrated by Fr. John Buckley PP and Dan was waked at home in accordance with his wishes surrounded by his family, neighbours and friends. Ni Bheidh a leithéid aris ann. Dan is survived by his son Patrick, Daughters Kathleen and Mary, Grandchildren Conor, David, Kathleen, Colman and Maria, Brother Sean, Sisters Breda and Ellie, nieces, nephews, sons in law, Mark and Tommy, extended family, relatives and many friends.
